Project Four: InDesign Magazine Article

This project is a magazine I created titled MICK, designed as a special “Happy Birthday Edition.” My goal was to combine creative writing and visual design into something that feels both personal and professional, like a real lifestyle magazine, while also celebrating someone important to me.

I structured the magazine to include multiple sections, each with its own theme and purpose. The cover sets the tone with a bold title, a warm color palette, and a candid photo that captures personality and joy. From there, I included a heartfelt birthday tribute that introduces who Mick is and what makes them special. I wanted this section to feel genuine and emotional, so I focused on descriptive language and personal reflection.

I also created feature articles to give the magazine more depth and variety. One of them, “Let Your Heart Guide,” explores the idea of living authentically and leading with emotion and intention. Another section focuses on hiking along the Central Coast, where I used descriptive writing to highlight nature and the experience of being outdoors. I also included a “Granola Stylebook,” which looks at a relaxed, nature-inspired fashion style and connects it to a broader lifestyle.

To make the magazine visually engaging, I carefully selected images that matched each theme and arranged them using layout techniques similar to real magazines, such as columns, headlines, and balanced spacing. I paid close attention to typography, using bold fonts for titles and simpler fonts for readability.
